[fic] Two Times Wrong
Summary: The aftermath of a revival, and reflections on it as time passes.
Warnings: Uhhh technically there are selfcest-y themes here! Yes. Thank you, Mall, for making these things possible. But there's nothing actually happening.
She still couldn't believe it had worked.
Well, of course, she'd gotten as much information as she could (and through less-than-savory channels, as well - she'd have to apologize to her cousinbrother for getting Loki to wrangle the information out of him, it probably had been very unpleasant,) but all things aside...there was always a chance of failure, always, even if you are able to see the future. She hadn't gazed forward, afraid that what she would see would be nothing but failure - nothing but both of them, everyone in the room, destroyed by the vengeful spirits of the afterlife, somehow not placated but angered.
But it hadn't happened. The fear that had given her nightmares for days, no, weeks before this - it hadn't come to pass, and now Akira was alive again. Alive, asleep, and...snuggled a bit closer than he should have been, she remembered with a blush. Of course, she was close to passing out herself (the ritual had taken a lot out of her,) but...she didn't quite feel like sleeping yet.
So that was that. It was done, for better or for worse, and now...? Well, now that Akira was alive again, he'd probably go back to his friends in the Mall - she imagined that he had many, being as friendly as he was. He was probably even going to get together with the Yuzu or Amane of his world--
and leave her behind, just like everyone else, because everyone already has someone so that leaves her all alone
-- somehow, it hurt worse than usual to think on that fact, but she resolved that she would do her best to work past that fact. She would help out, of course, because that's what friends do, right?
...Still, she was glad he was back, finally. She couldn't help being happy about that, she thought as she drifted off.
--
The morning after the Mall messed with the coffee she'd made, Asako woke up to the mind-bending realization that she'd been completely wrong. Unfortunately, it had all come up when she was off her rocker thanks to the Mall's influence. She couldn't help feeling embarrassed about it...yes, the end result had been good, but the means of getting there had been less than stellar.
Even though things had...she supposed, worked out? She still felt like hiding in her room and never leaving again.
--
Some time later, there was a kitty bento outside her door, and some long-overdue conversations ensued.
Once again, she had been wrong - but it wasn't a bad thing, not at all, she thought, smiling.
